The Association of Women in Alternative Investing (AWAI) offers the support and encouragement of a knowledgeable and dynamic community. Our members in California encompass a range of backgrounds and expertise within the financial industry ranging from operations, compliance, marketing, portfolio management and business leadership. Networking and panel events are geared to help our community share experiences to foster career and personal advancement across all levels and disciplines in finance.
AWAI offers women educational and networking opportunities in comfortable and supportive settings. Our programs enable members to increase their contribution to our industry and, in turn, each other.
AWAI is privileged and honored to invite you to join us for the rare opportunity to have a conversation with Kathleen Kennedy Townsend.
Ms. Townsend will speak on her advocacy for changes in the U.S. retirement system that could help to provide secure futures for Americans, as well as have profound positive implications for the investment management industry. There will also be an opportunity for Q&A.
Ms. Townsend has a distinguished history of accomplishment in the public arena, and for the last decade in the private sector. She has been a Managing Director at the Rock Creek Group, a leading, highly respected global investment and advisory firm that provides investors with solutions to achieve their return and risk objectives.
Among her many other accomplishments: In the mid-1980s, she founded the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Award. She is also the Founder of the Center of Research Initiatives at Georgetown University, where she serves as a Research Professor. She was appointed Chair of the Governor’s Retirement Security Task Force for the State of Maryland. She has been appointed Special Advisor at the Department of State. She is a Woodrow Wilson Fellow, has taught foreign policy at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Maryland and has been a visiting Fellow at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard.
